aBOUT pHILADELPHIA

LET NO ONE DOUBT That Philadelphia is the home base of the Underground Literary Alliance-- and of myself. I've planted enough roots in Philly to ensure my ongoing presence.

HOWEVER, at the same time I'm operating more under the radar and with wider scope than previously.

There's nothing to hide about my strategy. Here it is:

A.) Philly will operate as a hub from which ULAers can radiate out, with excursions not just to New York City, but to other east coast cities and to points west: Boston; Baltimore; D.C.; Pittsburgh; Cleveland; Detroit; Chicago; Athens Georgia; Austin Texas; and beyond. Soon enough, the west coast. We can't allow ourselves to be cooped-up in one spot.

B.) My returns to Philadelphia from journeys will be with reinforcements and/or resources to strengthen our base and make us stronger viz-a-viz our competitors.

C.) I'm allowing for more sophisticated tactics from ULA opponents, who'll become more ruthless as our success proceeds. They're not beyond arranging attacks on themselves in attempts to discredit us. After all: what happened at Penn's World Cafe a while back. Alter-egos? Copycats? Something else??

Daniel Handler went out of his way to let me know he'll be in Philly in October for the McSweeneyite 215 Festival. I can be entrapped in nothing if I'm not in town. I won't be when whatever is set-up to occur goes down.

Mon Capitan!

I have received word that the demi-puppets are mobilizing in New York City for a massive offensive against our troops in Philadelphia. One regiment, led by Major Richard Moody even now rouses itself from its quarters in the Housing Works Bookstore. My spies also tell me that Lieutenant Handler and his cursed dragoons control the roads from the Jersey Coast to Cherry Hill!

May I humbly suggest we make an amphibious assault on Brooklyn, wherefrom we can march into Manhattan against the unprotected left flank of Eggers' East Coast Army, and destroy them once and for all! All we need sir, are some clown costumes and some beer money and operation Wenclas is Batshit Crazy can proceed!

We await your orders!

'Zwounds likely a ploy if not a plan! The clown multiforms bees a private matter and are covered and accounted for in the cooked books. The slap-sticks are spit polished and slap happy. And the clowns being a ahead of the fools and idiots by a nose are in order Leftie, ie. out of order. And when the real George W makes his way 'cross the Delaware betimes weeze bees right behind him the Cherry Hill Mall in our psychs. Otherwise the beers in the mail.
Man the stink bombs! Remember the World Alamo Cafe! The Idiom Magazine will be loaded and ready, the Walking English poets dishing out the street wise cracks. Be sure to bally up to their table for plenty gutter- press word play and ULA wares that'd warm the cockles of any rebel or Apache. Jelly boy has them soft white 'mallows to fire up and blow off. Why eat crow? Of 215 Festerval fops and Mishandler in the school yards when the plank and the yardarm of the ULA will do just fine by ya!
(Yo Wenclas by the way you've struck the nail on the head with this post of yours-- Grog save the KING!)

Woh, hold a tick there, my friend. I'm a new reader to your blog, and a little slow getting up to speed. I've just waded through your this blog, trudged through the "tinfoil hat" item, and a swamp of crazy stuff about US secret government control of literature, then went over to the ULA's Monday Reports, especially the Cummings piece to see what this was all about. Very strange. I see it's also made it way onto Wikipedia... so I guess there's something to it. Then I looked around a bit further and came across this, on another website. (See text and link below.) What gives there, sir?

sent to Underground Literary Alliance on March 2:

Dear Skostecke and Pat,

At the prompting of Karl Wenclas, I responded to you one month ago, Feburary 2, regarding the "monday reports" Richard Cummings wrote for the Underground Literary Alliance's website. To date, you've still not posted my response (below), nor publicly acknowledged it on your site. Neither, so far as I can see, has the ULA site publicly acknowledged my earlier response to his writing, sent to Wenclas some years ago. I should think it'd be appropriate to note these responses on the webpage where Cummings's writings appear.

Sincerely,

James Linville

Sent to ULA, 2 February 2007:

To:Skostecke, and Pat, Underground Literary Alliance!

Dear Skostecke and Pat,

It’s unfortunate that Mr. Cummings has declined my invitation for a recorded conference call to clarify discrepancies and interpretations reflected in his writings about The Paris Review, where I used to be employed. I'm sure that conversation would have been illuminating about any number of matters, including the elevator Mr. Cummings discovered while visiting George Plimpton's townhouse.

As I stated before, I don’t believe he’s a fully competent journalist, or historian.

Sincerely,

James Linville

Dat's da meat that goes with the potatoe, rbs. King Wenclas has other posts and anaysis regarding the Linville entry into the ULA/ ciakgb fray, so I'm "confidant" that he'd steer you right if you get in touch with him.
There's other extensive "thats- the -skinny" regarding the hysterie and current full monty regarding your query. But let me also recoomend you look for GP Solomos's take on Cia (suggested in the ULA MR, but moreso elaborated on GPS's London based sites: FIBA (FilmBank) and Zero Press/ magazine. Solomos was there for the CIA propoganda macinations of Literary magazines inParis of the late 40's.

Dear MP,
Excuse me, I think you have a screw loose. First of all... that Richard Cummings piece reads like horseshit. And then that Solomos/Lennon piece is only further bullshit. What gave me pause when I looked further into the Cummings... why didn't Cummings take that PR guy up on his offer? Why didn't he agree to the tape conference call that was offered? Can the editor or whatever here explain? The blogger? King? I mean did any of the stuff here check out?

I guess Linville will leave me no choice but to discuss this matter-- which he sent me a hundred or so e-mails about earlier this year in trying to squelch the story.
Linville-- nor the Paris Review-- has publicly denied anything Cummings said.
Before running that Monday Report, I ran the matter by Linville. His only public comment was that Cummings "is not a competent journalist." Linville dismissed the Report's major premise-- which Peter Matthiessen later admitted was true.
Right now I don't have much time for this. Will get to it as soon as I get my life squared away.
Again: Why are people coming out of the woodwork now?

King Wenclas said...

(Here's the pasted text of the last e-mail I sent to Mr. Linville about the CIA matter, in response to an e-mail he sent me on June 27th of this year. I didn't receive a reply.)

?? Only if you go public with your side of the story.
Do you think I believe what you say?
In fact, I believe there's much more to the story than has been outed to date.
Let me remind you, that other than a very vague statement about Cummings not being a respectable journalist, you've never publicly denied the story presented in his original essay.
The central point of that essay-- Matthiessen's involvement with the CIA-- turns out to have been completely right. Which you did NOT say to me when we first posted the essay.
Your behavior throughout has been that of someone with something to hide-- private consultations with PR's editor Radhika and the like. Yet PR has never addressed the topic publicly-- not even to issue a denial.
Do you really want this story thrust into the light of day?
We can readily accommodate you and PR on that score if you like.
Otherwise, get out of my face with your hysterical idiocy.
Thanks.

Dear pbs:
Now yr mask comes off, or the makeup and lipstick--- the fake surprise the focus on Cummings and Linville (as if that was the issue) whilst and tryst the point of all this which you are attempting to avoid if not intentionally censor is Matthieson, just like the point regarding Solomos' investigative manifesto, is mark davis chapman coincidence and the freaking whatshisface who was the editor of the partisan review or whatever penniless when GPS first brushes shoulders with him in North Afica or whereever and then rich and well healed in the literary establishment moreover when GPS bumps into him many years later in London.
'Tis a coincidence then that after a few of the principals of the ULA developed contact and got info running between old time undergrounders in literature, film, arts, etc. who also turn out to have been and be underground editors and Kulchur critics (a coupla whom were chums and fellow videographers of Lennon in the '60's) and also that a short time after this exchage betwixt the ULA and these Europeans (which followed by the way, upon the height of the Linville/ULA/ Matheson (cf. NYTimes "confession" of CIA/ paris review mess)/ this here BLOG and the ULA/ OW schism concerning following right upon (all) this (cos the CIAKGB/moles and reactionaries in the ULA membership was being flushed out by ULA litinvestigative reporting), THAT packages sent to Dublin and London were "lost" by the USPS and as the summer/fall issue of Zine World reports zines and underground press materials were being "lost" or more stolen, censored or destroyed by the government, THAT, again, folowing this contact and following up by the ULA the CIA and the Bush admistration after the "closed " and midnight hour vote of the Democrats (the Opposition, hah!) especially wiretapping (overseas only so they sd.) and seisure of the mail by operatives of the corporatemilitarypostindustrial was approved, expanded upon, and stuck into the face of the people and the heart of culture underground.

XSee, y'all keep harping about the fact that the CIA can't be involved in domestic surveillance and infiltration so it isn't but it is, its all over the news even the egg on the face of what y'all thought would be obscuring and octopussies' ink confusions of a mask to hide behind.

The ULA jes wan's Geronimos bones returned by yr thieving masters and placed back into the arms of sacred ground-ing where days can sustain the people in the approaching cultural rebellion.
